OEM INTERFACE DEFINITION
Define the interface, circuits, environment, mating details, orientation, and approval status before a wire harness supplier reviews the assembly.
A connector reference alone may not explain the complete assembly requirement. The drawing, BOM, connection definition, and customer specification should show how the selected interface is controlled.

WHY THE INTERFACE COMES FIRST
The connector is the physical and electrical boundary between the harness and the equipment. A housing that appears suitable may still have the wrong circuit capacity, orientation, terminal compatibility, retention method, sealing arrangement, or mating interface.
For an OEM RFQ, identify which decisions are already customer-approved and which remain open for supplier review. This keeps a proposed component from being treated as an authorized substitution.

SELECTION INPUTS
Exact limits and component choices depend on the equipment and customer specification. Record the requirement and its acceptance basis rather than relying on a generic connector description.
Identify the equipment-side connector, applicable mating part, interface view, and who controls the mating component.
State the required circuit count, pin naming, approved connection mapping, and treatment of unused positions.
Provide the project-defined voltage, current, signal, grounding, shielding, and isolation requirements for engineering review.
Connect each circuit to the customer-specified wire information and confirm that terminal and seal choices belong to the approved component set.
Show the viewing direction, key position, latch direction, exit direction, and any installation-space constraint on the drawing.
Define retention, strain-relief, bend, pull, vibration, or handling requirements that must be reviewed for the application.
State the relevant temperature, moisture, contamination, chemical, ingress, or exposure requirements without assuming a rating.
Mark the selected part, approved alternatives, pending proposals, and responsible customer approver clearly.

DRAWING CONTROL
State whether the drawing shows the mating face, wire-entry side, or another defined reference. Do not leave the reader to infer the perspective.
Keep connector reference designators and circuit names consistent between the assembly drawing, connection table, wire list, and BOM.
Define connector orientation and cable exit relative to controlled harness reference points when packaging or installation space makes direction important.
